Where to put your office copier: placement, power and space

Sindoh Malaysia · Updated

Put the copier where most staff can reach it in a short walk, with room to open every door and tray, a dedicated power socket, a network point or good Wi-Fi, and airflow around it. Keep it away from direct sun, water and damp, and out of public view if it prints confidential documents.

Measure before delivery

Office copiers are bigger and heavier than desktop printers. The Sindoh D5000 Series main unit measures about 592 × 660 mm and weighs about 82 kg; the D7500 Series weighs about 90 kg. Finishers and extra paper trays add width and height. Check that lifts, doorways and corridors are wide enough on delivery day.

Leave room to work

Staff need to open the front doors, pull out paper trays, clear jams and lift the feeder. Allow clear space in front and to the sides, and some space behind for airflow and cables. The installation guide for the model gives the exact clearances.

Power and network

  • Use a wall socket, not a shared extension board with other heavy equipment.
  • Avoid sockets on the same circuit as microwaves, kettles or heaters.
  • Place it near a network point, or where Wi-Fi is strong. The D7500 and D5000 Series support Gigabit Ethernet and Wi-Fi.

Environment

  • Keep it out of direct sunlight and away from air-conditioner drips, windows and sinks.
  • Store paper in its wrapper in a dry place. Damp paper curls and jams, especially in humid weather. See fixing paper jams.
  • Don’t box the machine into a tight cabinet; it needs airflow.

Convenience and privacy

Central is best: a short walk for most staff, but not beside desks where the noise disturbs people. If HR or finance print confidential papers, keep the copier out of view of visitors, or use card authentication so jobs print only when the owner is standing there. Read about secure printing.

Quick answers

How much space does an office copier need?

Allow for the machine’s footprint plus clear space to open doors and trays and some space behind for airflow. The model’s installation guide lists exact clearances.

Can a copier share a power socket?

It is best on its own wall socket, not on an extension board shared with other heavy appliances.
